According to several research, a significant number of students find studying boring and lethargic.
Are you one of them? Cause if you are, you are not alone.
Almost 66% of students tend to be bored in class and therefore lack interest in subjects resulting in cramming the night before exams.
Well, those days are over! If you want to make studying fun, interactive, and something you look forward to, gamification is the way to go! Today, I will share with you 7 simple ways that helped me score above 85% in exams while keeping my study sessions enjoyable and productive.
When you play a game, you are always expected to get scores or finish a level in a given amount of time. Studying can be done like that too.
a. Read an entire chapter like a novel in 15 minutes.
b. Solve 10 Mathematics problems in 20 minutes.
c. Give yourself marks on every task and maintain study levels.
This way, studying will turn into an exciting game rather than just a boring task. Try this and let me know how it turns out.
If you have read articles on study tips, I am sure you have read about this method in almost every one of them. Trust me it is a game changer. When you study without multiple breaks you tend to lose focus and get distracted easily.
a. Set a timer of 25 minutes with 5 minutes of break and start there.
b. Use those breaks for quick water bottle filling, grabbing a snack, etc.
c. One thing you certainly do not is pick up your phone for a quick scroll.
Try this method, and studying won't be so overwhelming after all.
This particular trick works for me a lot! A German study in 2020 stated that students who fulfil their daily water requirements. (at least 2 - 3 litres) tend to have better memory performance.
1. Keep a water bottle with you when you sit to study.
2. Drink whenever you feel a little parched.
3. Hydration is the key.
If you don't know what you learned, what is the benefit of that right? Whenever you are done with your studies always test yourself with what you remembered at the end of it. There are some methods to test yourself.
a. Ask your friend, or any of your close ones to test you.
b. Use active recalling and try to memorize everything you learned.
c. Sing a song, and the lyrics will be all you remember. Rap if you must.
Take a piece of paper and write down all the keywords or major terms that you learnt.
Whenever you are studying something, (except mathematics) try to form a story in your mind. Studies have shown that 65% of the population are visual learners. Meaning they learn best when a picture or a diagram is involved. It is scientifically proven that your brain can take in information in 13 milliseconds if it is in visual form.
a. Use diagrams and mind maps in your note-making process.
b. Draw out the answers roughly to learn better.
c. Use colors in your notes for a better intake of information.
When it comes to studying, your environment affects your learning significantly. Choose a place with minimal distractions and better lighting. I prefer natural lighting more than artificial lighting but if you cannot access sun, study in a well-lit room.
a. Choose a good spot. (a cozy space, library, a quiet room) Always prefer studying at a table rather than in bed.
b. Keep your space organized. Declutter regularly.
c. Use a scented candle or a calming plant. Enhance your study space.
Remember to mix it up a little and change your regular space if needed.
If you ever want to master a topic, always find someone who you can teach. The more you explain them, the better you understand yourself.
a. Teach your classmates who have trouble keeping up in the class.
b. Form a study group and learn from each other.
c. If you don't have anyone, act like you are teaching a class and record yourself. (You can always polish public speaking skills with this)
Studying doesn't have to be boring anymore. These are some tricks that worked for me. I have tried and tested more methods. If you want more tips, let me know in the comment section.
